Scottsboro delays start of school

SCOTTSBORO, Ala. – The Board of Education voted Thursday night to approve his recommendation to delay the start of school, according to Scottsboro City Schools Superintendent Dr. Jose Reyes. The Scottsboro City Schools Board of Education voted to delay the start of school until August 24 instead of August 12.

Jordan Fisher got quite emotional when he saw the poster for his new Netflix coming-of-age comedy “Work It” because the cast is so diverse. Of the nine actors featured on the poster, seven are people of color. “It literally made me shed a tear,” the actor, who is multiethnic, says on this week’s episode of the Variety and iHeart podcast “The Big Ticket,”, adding, “I love to see the way that America is shaped now.”

Effective: 2020-08-07 05:11:00 CDT Expires: 2020-08-07 08:00:00 CDT Urgency: Expected Severity: Minor Certainty: Observed Target Area: DeKalb; Jackson; Marshall Significant Weather Advisory for Patchy Dense Fog across northeast Alabama and a small portion of southern Middle Tennessee Patchy, locally dense fog has developed early this morning in the larger river valleys of northeast Alabama and southern Middle Tennessee, including the Paint Rock, Tennessee and Big Wills Valleys. Visibility may suddenly drop to one quarter of a mile or less in few locations, and could create hazardous traveling conditions on major thoroughfares such as Interstate 59 and US Highway 72. Motorists are urged to drive with extreme caution, as visibilities will vary significantly given the patchy nature of the fog. Use low beams, reduce driving speed, and allow for plenty of room between you and other cars. The fog should dissipate between 7 and 8 AM CDT. Stay tuned to NOAA Weather Radio, or a favorite local media outlet, for further statements or updates from the National Weather Service in Huntsville.

Back to school 2020: 100 Mississippi students quarantined 1 week into new school year

More than 100 Mississippi students are quarantined after 6 coronavirus cases were identified among students. Corinth, Miss. School District has been back in class since July 27. The 6 COVID-positive students, as well as 1 faculty member, are from two separate schools. Corinth School District spokesperson Taylor Coombs said 116 students considered to be in close contact with the positive cases have been sent home to quarantine for 14 days.
